Periodontal disease or gum disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and
supporting structures of the teeth. When plaque and tartar accumulate at the base of your teeth, the bacteria in the plaque leads to an infection in the gums called Gingivitis - the first step of periodontal disease where the gums may become swollen, red, and bleed easily. This infection can spread to the bone and tissue that holds your teeth in place, a condition called Periodontitis, and if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss, stroke, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and increased risk during pregnancy.
Signs and symptoms of periodontal disease:
* Tenderness or Discomfort
* Red/Puffy Gums
* Loose Teeth
* Bleeding Gums
* Persistent Bad Breath
* Receding Gums
* New spacing between teeth caused by bone loss
Periodontal disease is treatable and preventable with:
* Deep Cleaning
* Periodontal Surgery
* Advanced Gum Treatment
A Root Canal is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. Root canals are done to save the damaged or dead pulp in the root canal of the tooth by cleaning out the pulp/nerves/bacteria/decay and reshaping the canal. The canal is filled with special dental materials which restore the tooth to its full function.
Some patients believe removing a tooth that has complications is the solution, but what they don't realize is that extracting a tooth will be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth. Root canal treatment is highly successful and usually lasts a lifetime.
A dental crown is a common procedure that places a tooth-shaped "cap" over a misshapen, decayed, or damaged tooth restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown can be made of a variety of materials including metals, ceramic, and porcelain composites.
A crown is one of the most simple dental procedures performed today and the benefits can last a lifetime.
